Leisure and Public Holidays
La Gomera offers visitors a wide variety of outdoor leisure activities. The natural wealth of the environment and the climate make the Island the perfect setting for all kinds of outdoor sports, and, of course, you can practise them at any time of year.
Tecina Golf
Situated in La Lomada de Tecina, 1,200 metres from Playa de Santiago, this resort is exceptional from several points of view. It offers 18 holes (par 71), on a course covering an area of 545,000 m2 and a course length of 6,205 metres of the most spectacular landscapes of the Columbine Island.
Donald Steel, designer of the New St. Andrews, among others, has given free rein to his renown, creative imagination. The spectacular views of the valley and the uninterrupted panoramic view over the Atlantic Ocean guarantee that you will enjoy this unique experience.
The Club House, by the 18th hole, includes a closed driving range, a putting green, comfortable changing rooms, a country style bar, restaurant, a pro shop, and all with views of Tapahuga beach. So, one of the most impressive aspects for golfers is the landscape they play in, and in Tecina Golf, the landscape is unrivalled.
Tenis, Padel and Squash
In the Hotel Jardin Tecina, you can enjoy a wide variety of sports in the different sports facilities. The hotel has tennis, paddle and squash courts. You can also try your hand at a range of leisure activities like mini-golf, table tennis, petanque, etc.
Hiking and Mountain Biking
For hikers, there is a large number of trails waiting for those who enjoy the magic of a natural environment that dates back to the beginnings of time. The rugged terrain of the island has generated a dense network of trails. These paths criss-cross the whole island and they are kept in excellent condition. This has established the island as a perfect destination for hikers. The unusual image is completed with sheer cliffs, rock pinnacles, forests of laurel, pines and giant heather that make La Gomera an island with a difference, beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Apart from walking, other possibilities include horse riding, and mountain biking.
Yacht marina
The Port of San Sebastian de La Gomera is the first port of call, with a proud history that is closely linked with the Discovery of America. In the 15th century it became a regular stop-over for expeditions to the New World.
It is a modern port and marina for water sports activities.
Sports Fishing
Thanks to the exception climate all year round and the sea currents, the temperature of the water in the Canary Islands varies between 19ºC in winter and 26ºC in summer.
The particularity of the sea beds (descending to a depth of over 3,500 m between islands) and the volcanic rock they are made from, are excellent nurseries for countless marine species.
These include:
The Blue Marlin with its powerful attack and its spectacular and unpredictable defence in the struggle it wages with the fisherman in its attempts to beak free.
The Blue-fin tuna, the larges of the tunas, with a weight that can surpass 500kg, is known for the brute force of its fight and its desperate flight into the depths.
The most famous coastal predator is undoubtedly the Wahoo (Mahi Mahi), whose aggressiveness in combat makes it a worth opponent.
With its striking colours, peculiar shape and prized meat, the Dolphin fish is another voracious predator that circles floating objects in the open sea, which also act as a refuge for the odd school of fish.
La Gomera will offer you unforgettable days of sports fishing.
Almost every town and village on La Gomera celebrates its own fiestas, full of striking manifestations of their popular culture, some of which date back to times before the island was conquered by the Castilian soldiers.
